Travel has been a part of my life since my father accepted a job at the United Seaman’s Service a job that came to him from his involvement in the Tall Ships production in New York. He is actually a musician, a graduate of Eastman, but given the chance to travel as Director of the USS, he gave music a rest and convinced my mother to take the family, which at the time consisted of my 1 year old brother by her side and me in her belly, to Venezuela. I had no objections to the move and probably really enjoyed the flight.
My father’s job took us to Egypt for a year after 2 years in Venezuela and then to Korea. We spent another two years in Pusan before moving to Guam where we, they, haven’t budged since.
Living in Guam made it easy to travel throughout Asia and the Pacific but difficult to stay connected with family on the East Coast. Below is a list of the places I was able to travel to either with my family, my swim team or on my own.
